Trolls ★★★★☆

Plot Summary :

From the creators of Shrek comes the most smart, funny, irreverent animated comedy of the year, DreamWorks’ Trolls. This holiday season, enter a colorful, wondrous world populated by hilariously unforgettable characters and discover the story of the overly optimistic Trolls, with a constant song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stomach. Featuring original music from Justin Timberlake, and soon-to-be classic mash-ups of songs from other popular artists, the film stars the voice talents of Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Russell Brand, James Corden, Kunal Nayyar, Ron Funches, Icona Pop, Gwen Stefani, and many more. DreamWorks’ TROLLS is a fresh, broad comedy filled with music, heart and hair-raising adventures.

After the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy, the happiest Troll ever born, and the curmudgeonly Branch set off on a journey to rescue her friends.

Film Review :

Not knowing I was in for a big surprise. As soon as the movie started I didn’t realise I was already transported back in time and felt like a kid again. It was like being in a roller coaster ride with all these bright colors and just pure fun surrounding me. Visually stunning! No dull moments at all.

The musical adventure created the best scenes of the film. Hearing all the great covers of the most popular all time hits were brilliant! Like the songs “I’m coming out” and “True Colors”.  It was definitely hard not to stomp your feet or sing along a bit. What a fun ride!

As far as the story telling goes, it was excellent. The pacing was great and consistent with the theme. It was very entertaining to watch. Throughout the film the message was quite clear that “happiness is within us all”. And that only us can make ourselves truly happy.

A film made for kids but will definitely benefit young adults and adults too. Enjoyable for kids and kids at heart!

In NZ Cinemas on December 1, 2016.
