The Mercy ★★★★☆

In truth, there is mercy. This was the message I have gathered while watching this film. The Mercy is a cruel story about a what appears to be a dignified man, Donald Crowhurst ( Colin Firth) with dreams and aspirations. However, it all comes to clarity when his goals are but delusions, only to please himself. With the short-term fame and recognition which he has fed upon to continue his journey at sea. Just to cheat his way and eventually leading his family and community into thinking otherwise.

His wife, Claire, played beautifully by Rachel Weisz was the one who saw it for what it is. But because of her love for her husband, she chose not to stand in his way. Even though she knew it was not the right thing to do. She knew what her husband’s capabilities were and only hoped he’d change his mind. But Donald could not make himself to retreat. Instead, he deceived his family and left them without a husband and a father in exchange for truth. And in Donald’s case, it was more about the humiliation he had to face.

Crowhurst’s life is a tragic and painful story that tells us about the value of life as well as the effects of our personal decisions to the people who are dear to us.  Altogether, a film not to miss for reasons of profound moral lessons and its brilliant delivery. As well as the closure it brings for Donald and his family.
