Mary Shelley and her inspiration★★★½
A look into the life and heart of the woman who created one of the most legendary stories of all time. Mary Shelley (Elle Fanning) is a film about what inspired The Frankenstein story and the process it took to create the masterpiece.
As a young girl, Mary had a compelling life story, surrounded by her great passion for reading and writing. She also had complexed family issues as well as her experiences with the deaths of her loved ones. Although she was only a teenager when she began writing. It seemed that it has always been in her blood to become a great novelist such as her late mother, Mary Wollstonecraft. Not only did Mary represent feminism in her time like her mother, who was a vocal supporter of equality in education and rights for women. Mary also became a symbol of strength when she faced her own struggles as a woman during that time. In return, all of the pain and misery became her inspiration for her novel.
Mary Shelley as a film is captivating like a profoundly dark and highly emotional journey. The director’s approach to his story-telling brings you on time travelling back to 1800. Taking note of the film’s precision in every detail as well as the makeup and design appear natural and incredibly believable. Another thing I find remarkable and worth mentioning.
