AKIRA ★★★★

The remastering of the 1988 classic Akira, bringing back the life of a groundbreaking anime. Set in a dystopian world after a WW III nuclear explosion resulting in a rebirth of a new age, and a so-called Neo-Tokyo is born.

Akira is a strange film filled with symbolism and lots of it. From beginning to end, the artistic expression to take on political, philosophical and physical perceptions in different levels is astonishing. Let alone the film’s introduction, which is mind-boggling, especially watching it on a big screen- which I highly recommend.

Considering it has been 30 years since the film was first released, the elaborateness is still at a high level. Altogether a very dark and complicated story with a strong visual. Akira is violent but delicate at the same time. It is a film to be consumed with an open mind.
