Anette★★½

The originality and imagination to create this film were at a high level. It gave me something I had never seen before, and it’s preposterous and brilliant at the same time.
Although I have mixed thoughts and feelings about this film, it is odd and complex enough, and not everything made sense. It is an exaggeration of the delivery, which made it unrelatable at times. However, intensification also is the film’s great asset. Therefore, reinforcing my bewildered stand with this film. A somewhat confusing work of art.
Anette, a memorable film not because it is a compelling story but because it tore away from expectations and defined uniqueness on a new level. Have I also not yet mentioned the exceptional performances by Adam Driver, especially and Marion Cotillard. They made possible the awkwardness and absurdity between the characters believable even in their strangeness.
Overall, it is a film with an acquired taste. It takes a moment to digest and appreciate the art. To me, it is incredible but fell short at the same time. The main characters were underdeveloped and lacked a good backstory- this would have made them more genuine. Nevertheless, it is unforgettable for its unusually clever concept, artistry but the complicated film is borderline confusing. And if you are into experimental cinema, this movie is for you; otherwise, skip.
