Decision to Leave★★★
One might ask why it takes so much for two people to act on their feelings. There could be many reasons, but in this story, it is pretty ambiguous.
‘Decision to Leave’ is an alternative love story between a detective, played by Park Hei-il and his suspect, played by Tang Wei. This film undoubtedly possesses outstanding directorial command by Park Chan-wook.
The film earned multiple memorable scenes from the beginning until the end—beautifully created scenes with original viewpoints, none I have seen before. One might not forget the scene where the point of view came from the dead man’s eye while ants crawled over it. An example that this film requires seeing more than once to capture all the details that make it extraordinary. However, as for the narrative, it fell short on its backstory and conveniently underdevelops the supporting roles of the detective’s wife and colleague.
Altogether this rare piece of art may or may not captivate you, but its uniqueness is a must-see. In addition, making sense of it is a unique process that will make you raise more questions or reach a judgement.
