I have seen this movie a little over 3 years ago and it’s been one of my favourite movies ever since. It’s one of those quirky and cute movies that you just want to watch over and over again. I could probably say this film is a bit similar to “Ruby Sparks”. Although they have different story lines and the other one is a whimsical fantasy of two people meeting in a very strange way. Somehow both of them have that same impression they give to the audience.
The story starts with a son, named Oliver who learns about his father being a homosexual just right after his mother’s death. Utterly unable to decide what to do, what to be and how to deal with things. He remains quiet and reserved.
One night, when Oliver came with his workmates to a party. He meets this foreign girl,a french actress to be exact and that her name is Ana. They had then spent all night talking and getting to know each other.
Eventually, they both fell in love but then things got in the way. Things like, family issues, insecurities and careers including Arthur, the family dog.
This movie is one of the most romantic movies I have never seen. It’s charming and original but then it touches deep emotions and the kind that happens in real life. I like everything about this film, the cinematography, plot, soundtracks and casts. Altogether quirky, funny, tragic and sweet all at the same time yet it gives that state of candor and sincerity. I guess because much of this film is autobiographical, and is based on director Mike Mills experiences after his own father came out of the closet following his mother’s death.
Surely anyone who watches this film will see it at least once or twice.
