SUICIDE SQUAD  ★★★☆☆

***SPOILER ALERT***

The movie is about a group of the most wanted criminals who have “abilities” and were forced to do good by fighting side by side against an evil witch who was initially supposed to be part of their team. Thus, Suicide Squad was formed. They were introduced by Amanda Waller (Viola Davies) as a top secret weapon against future alien attacks after Batman Vs Superman happened.

As far as the introduction of the squad goes it showed that the members were actually just regular people with no extraordinary powers except for Diablo (Jay Hernandez)  and Enchantress, the witch (Cara Delavingne). And that they were disposable with just a click of a button linking a bomb implanted into their necks. Needless to say, they were not that valuable to the US government at all. Therefore, this group has totally no clue what they’re up against and that they have no choice but to fight this enemy. I couldn’t help but notice that attempt to link all the DC characters seemed too much that the story telling got a bit muddled up. It became too dark, not too funny and  a bit confusing at times with all the flashbacks and too many subplots. Furthermore, it seems that the film has tried to be cheeky and fun but has failed to do so.

I find that a lot of moments showed that the momentum, script and acting just did not fit right. Moments like the odd scenes of the Enchantress trying to build her “Machine” to destroy the world. However, when encountered by the Suicide Squad she fought them with a hand-to-hand combat when she clearly is most powerful than all of them. And could have easily wiped them all out. But didn’t.

Although, I did notice Deadshot ( Will Smith) and Harley Quinn ( Margot Robbie) carried the film until the end. They seemed like they had great chemistry and that without them the film would not have been that interesting. As for Joker (Jared Leto) he did his best as the Joker but seemed to just fade in and out in the movie. It was just about him getting his lady back in a hopelessly romantic and creepy kinda way.

In conclusion, Suicide Squad has failed to deliver but they have tried. However, for comic fans out there, it is not a total disappointment rather entertaining. It’s just not that great! I guess writer/director David Ayer did a way better job in Fury than in this film.
