***SPOILER ALERT***
The movie is based on true story although highly fictionalised, is about two young dudes who became gun men for the United States Pentagon. Sounds really interesting, right! Unfortunately it didn’t deliver. This movie could have been way better if not for the let down of the cast, the noted underacting from David ( Miles Teller) and his overacting buddy Efraim (Jonah Hill) was hard to ignore. On top of that, there was not much chemistry between the two playing as used-to-be best friends and now business partners. Story telling wise, it was alright. Sometimes it just felt like it was all over the map. However it seems that the story focused more on how David was still trying to be a good person despite the illegal deals they got themselves into. But it just didn’t work. Not to mention the repetitive lying to his partner Iz ( Ana de Armas) who seems to have only appeared in and out of the film to add some romantic conflict in between the chaos of the situation David got himself into.
Director Todd Phillips did really well with Hangover trilogy, but it was not the same for War Dogs. It seemed that the movie felt there was something lacking or rather it’s the same sort of movie that we’ve seen before. Nothing that special, I guess.
Although it was still entertaining as Jonah Hill had some memorable scenes being the comic relief character in the movie. But that’s about it. Therefore, this movie was not as interesting as the story itself was!
