Film Review:
From the previous director of the successful blockbuster hit in Australia back in 2011, this time the prequel Red Dog: True Blue, Kriv Stenders did it once again! Captivating in its own way, this film has shown how a dog can be a superstar. Blue the dog, played by Phoenix was wonderful in his role as the legendary Red Dog. He had the x-factor indeed. You can see the emotion in his eyes the whole time. Without him the film would not be a success.
Rescued after a storm by a kid named Mick, played by Levi Miller, who also happens to be quite lost with his new life in the outback. Both of them found refuge and companionship in each others lives. They went on adventures and got themselves into trouble many times. Although Mick was still young, he noticed things around the farm. He seemed to notice the native people who are fighting for their land and rights to own it again. But with a young boy’s point of view there was not much that Mick could have done to help them out. As he hits puberty he eventually experiences love as well as his first heart break.
The story telling of this film is quite commendable as it unfolds itself slowly in a very interesting way. You are made to wait for something big to happen and then it delivers. The cinematography is brilliant with many scenes to take home and cherish. A lot of great and remarkable shots definitely in this film.
A family friendly film that everyone will enjoy and probably cry about. It’s heartwarming, soulful with some wit and delight - something ideal for this holiday season!
