Film Review:
Like the three musketeers, this modern day group of three elderly gentlemen decided to rob a bank as an “ in your face” response to their employer’s failure to deliver their pension plans. A reboot of the original 1979 Going in Style film, with a deeper reason to rob a bank. As well as a lighter tone and family friendly feel.
The three leading roles were played by Willie (Morgan Freeman) Joe (Michael Caine) and Al (Alan Arkin) who all did really great in the movie. All of them seemed to have had so much fun with their roles as elderly men with different personalities complementing each other and as a group. As a fan of the main actors, it’s fascinating seeing them in comedy roles such as this film. They were funny and took their roles as if they were your grandpas.
The plot changes that were made in this reboot catered to the current issues of retirement and financial challenges many people are facing now– a nice touch that made the film very relatable. A movie that most people of the same age group would really enjoy! The jokes are slightly inconsistent and sometimes flat, but overall it is hilarious with a more than average comic scenes. And the memorable script to laugh about more after watching the film.
Taken as a whole, this movie is a fun and light-hearted story about three generally good men who just wanted a nice piece of pie and share it to rest of their neighbourhood. Not entirely a must-see movie but if ever you have a spare time and would like to spend a free day in the cinemas– this movie is the one to watch!
