Ocean’s 8 Power to the Women★★★½
Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) is unstoppable when it comes to her wicked schemes. As soon as she got her parole approved, she went straight back to business.
With her vast knowledge and talents in the art of thievery, Debbie Ocean was fearless when forming her group, Ocean’s 8. She and her loyal partner Lou (Cate Blanchett), lead a group of diverse women all wanting to have better lives whether it be avoiding an impending bankruptcy, escaping parental pressures or simply starting anew. However, the end does not justify the means in this story–a well-maintained theme for these film franchise.
The female-dominated cast is a first for the Oceans series, celebrating diversity, inclusivity, and a step forward to gender equality which marks an essential point in modern blockbuster Hollywood films. When there is representation, it makes the film more relatable and engaging.
Ocean’s 8 is a light-hearted comedy with an insight to art and fashion industry. A particular scene I remember was how museums generally handle security issues. As well as the process that goes with organising the Met Gala. A nice touch to blend in with the story. While the film is mainly about a group of female misfits finding friendship and family in each other. And not so much on the lavish and luxurious lifestyle. Of course, there is always a twist at the end in stories involving big heists like this one. Another thing to find out and have a laugh about. If you are looking for an entertaining movie to watch with your friends, it’s a must to put this one on your list.
